Carefully selected materials
All products in the Bed cover range consist of different layers and materials. Together they provide the best possible protection and comfort.
Directive for medical devices MDD 93/42/EEC – for patient safety:
All bed protection products are made from the best quality materials and we guarantee that our products meet all relevant medical device standards.
- We also guarantee that we comply with the new MDR Regulation (REGULATION (EU) 2017/745 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 5 April 2017 on medical devices) , which entered into force in May 2021.
The main materials used in ABENA's bed protection range include:
- PE (polyethylene) backing, which is a liquid-proof material.
- Breathable PE (polyethylene) is a waterproof material that is also breathable. The fibers are stretched and mixed with chalk (calcium carbonate) to make the waterproof material breathable.
- PP nonwoven (polypropylene) forms a textile like material with breathability, which is comfortable against the skin and leads the liquid to the absorbent core.
- Fluff (cellulose/paper fibers) forms the basis of the absorbent core. Fluff absorbs 10 times its own weight and spreads the liquid in the bed cover.
- Tissue (cellulose/paper fibers) is an absorbent material that spreads liquid and a pleasant surface.
- SAP (Super absorbent polymer) absorbs and retains the liquid even under pressure and minimizes unwanted odors. SAP can absorb 35-50 times its own weight depending on the type and encapsulates the liquid inside the bed cover. The liquid turns SAP into gel, which keeps the surface of the bed cover dry for longer.
As an important part of a holistic approach to healthcare, bed protection improves the quality of life for users and healthcare professionals around the world.
